. . .  or more like playing in black sands, picking berries, visiting with family, riding bikes & eating ice-cream...
Summer has been too much fun, and, as it happened last year, the blog went to sleep.
But I am back and ready to be in touch and share!
August starts tomorrow, and the blog will be full of visual candy and updates including projects & ideas.

{self} Letter writing: a new expreiment

I just wrote a letter that will be delivered to my inbox in a couple of months. It's an experiment to forecasting, dreaming and visioning... or something of that sort.
The site is http://www.futureme.org/

The idea is that articulating a vision and creating a statement about a dream/wish/desire, we move towards it.

It is a fun experiment which I will follow up on this blog after I hear from me! Stay tuned

2013 Unleash is happily under way!

It is the end of the second month and I can honestly say that things seem to be on track, although they go in and out of focus. Something is unfolding, but I don't know that I can yet name it.

There are two larger pieces 'on the easel' and three more misfit dolls in progress. Today was day four of the Right Brain Business Plan Summit (see link below) and the creative energy is bubbling.

At the beginning of January I posted a "Creative Pay it Forward" self-challenge on FB, and I am ready to start sending gifts out. It feels like all of the information and inspiration from the Summit are a gift from the facilitators and presenters. I am grateful for their paying it forward and indirectly encouraging my process.

Today marked the first of a 10-day exploration for
right brainers in business. Jennifer Lee is the genius
behind the magic. To kick it all off: Dan Pink talking
about 'sales' in its broadest sense; more like getting
your point across and having others join you-than
any other kind of transaction. In one word: awesome!
Here's a link to get your free ticket: http://rightbrainersinbusiness.com/

“Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us
just show up and get to work. If you wait
around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightening to strike you in the brain, you
are not going to make an awful lot of work.
All the best ideas come out of the process;
they come out of the work itself.”

Facing Reluctance; Facing Fear

The proposition alone triggers a wave of jitters: become a full-time artist.

Is that what I really want? Can I really leave my clients, the built-in accountability of having a schedule, the depth of sharing, the role of guide and supporter? ... Or it is what I want... I am just afraid I can't pull it off?

2013 is my lab. My number one task is to TRY THINGS OUT. When I am reluctant to do something my gut is telling me to try; I negotiate. 'Do it for 15 minutes.' 'Just start.' 'Do it first.' Reluctantly sometimes, I engage... and frequently I am amazed at the results: it gets done. It's no big deal. And even if it is not really something I want to do again, it's still No Big Deal.

So the take-away for this quest to overcome reluctance and face my fears is to keep moving, to be kind and compassionate towards myself, but to push in the direction of the question, which might just be the direction of the dream.

The truth is that I refused to get on the blogging bandwagon in 2007 when a friend suggested that 'it was the way to go,' with the same vehemence that I rejected getting a cell phone for years. Until I got a cell phone and within days I wondered how I had survived so long without one.

It is in the same tail-between-my-legs-way, that I start this my first blog post.

You see, I come from a 'private' family --at least one of the branches of it is. We are forger-aheaders. We solve problems and make choices that make sense. We look for the silver lining and celebrate the hell out of it. We practice gratitude for all of the concrete blessings we experience and posses... But the emotional side of things is a little more "scant," to say it some way...

Baring my soul is NOT something I enjoy doing, and it may be a chief reason for my becoming a therapist. I find transparency and vulnerability compelling. I admire a person's willingness and courage to go there and lean into it. But me, I am mostly fine.

It was a few months ago that art, once again, pierced that stoically practical veneer and started to create an urgent need...
