Last day of Month *3*

Spring - collage & polymer clay - 2.5X2.5

March is a long month.

March is also generally a hard month for me.

Portland is a moody, restrained lover in Spring. On the one hand we have the early blooms -the daphne, oh, god, the daphne!!-, the playful peeks of sunshine, the slow awakening of activity in the neighborhood streets. On the other we have the heavy gray sky with its unrelenting sprinkling and low temps that invariably gets most of us talking about moving to a sunnier town in a warmer state with more generous seasons.

But this March... Well, this March things have been better; more consistent; just nicer. In fact, I feel compelled to throw caution to the wind and just admit that things have been plain GREAT. Maybe I only have access to my short memory, and that is somewhat tainting this report. But for yesterday and today, the weather has been just FLAW•LESS!!!

So much for the weather. This is self-assessment time. How goes my year-long-project to 'unleash.' Well, March brought into existence a few more finished pieces, as well as the magnificent video making class Montage. The Facebook page Consu's Art Adventures got launched, and at last check, it had just crossed over the hundredth 'like,' which is thrilling in this strange and scary way.

Yesterday I saw a friend, whom I hadn't seen in a while, and when we hugged, he whispered, "hello, girl with the frog in her throat," and in that instant I understood that this portion of 'unleashing' means letting people in to what has been, for my whole life, the most private part of my world.

Yikes! Yay! OMG & crap!!!
It's all good, and I am still looking forward to unleashing some more!

Mr. 5 o'clock

Mr. 5 o'clock was my husband when

I was 5 years old.

I talked to him perched on my mom's old sewing machine tucked in the back of the kitchen by the window. He worked at the office and was frequently late for dinner, but he was a kind man.

The Girl with the Frog in her Throat... (with video link)

Another quick mixed-media art-journal page I finished last weekend. About half way into the process I decided to film the activity: you can see an abbreviated version video of it by clicking  here.

The words came out as I was playing with print/fonts; definitely an area of further exploration and development (!). But I like the message of befriending the frog in our throats in order to liberate our song.

I am totally hooked on making little videos since completing Vivienne McMaster's class "Montage." She is an amazing teacher who gives you both inspiration and technical information, all wrapped up in patience and encouragement!! Do check out her offerings!

Voici Mon Secret ...

Goodbye, said the fox. Here is my secret. It is very simple: One sees clearly only with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes.

Adieu, dit le renard. Voici mon secret. Il est très simple: on ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.

{self} Letter writing: a new expreiment

I just wrote a letter that will be delivered to my inbox in a couple of months. It's an experiment to forecasting, dreaming and visioning... or something of that sort.
The site is http://www.futureme.org/

The idea is that articulating a vision and creating a statement about a dream/wish/desire, we move towards it.

It is a fun experiment which I will follow up on this blog after I hear from me! Stay tuned

The art lab is open.

This week is all about going wild
with backgrounds and then taming
them with images and a unifying color.
